The ache of home after you leave the city you grew up in hits everyone at a certain point. Nobody prepares you for it and you may have not even seen it coming amid your board exam preparation. Suddenly one day your room is filled with half-packed luggage and you lay awake listening to the sounds of passing vehicles, and you wonder where did all the time go. Heading to a new city for college didn’t seem like a challenging task back when you talked about it to your friends but everything seems different when you leave your home and the people who felt like home for the first time . Some go far away hoping to find a piece of home in everyone they meet but not everyone finds them. After school our life is quite impactful on us, it’s a phase where extroverts become unbelievably silent, the loud one enjoys calmness, the one who socialises forgets what to talk and the one who never stays at home misses home. Soon you realise the only thing that reminds you of home is nothing but yourself and it’s when you start enjoying being on your own and home becomes all the little things you do. Home means the pen mark on your blanket when the pen fell in love with it while you dozed off studying, sometimes home means the 6 am alarm which feels like your dad screaming for you to get up, or home lies between the lines of Harry styles song which you used to listen during Sunday movie time While you and your friends screeching voice made the entire boarding stare but most of all home means the smile reflected in the mirror on a random Tuesday morning where you see a bit of your parents hard work, some of the hardest goodbyes from the best people, your friend’s dumb joke which didn’t make you smile back then and a hint of sorrow beneath those curves and sparkling eyes but the smile in the mirror only grows wider, as every time good days outweigh the bad ones and then it hits your mind hard that you carry a piece of home with you, where ever you go!!
